WHAT STUDENTS HAVE TO SAY...
some testimonials from Banting Alternative Program students
2011-2012
"The Alternative Program has changed my life in a few different ways. One of the ways is because it has given me the motivation to come to school and earn my credits. I enjoy going here because the teachers are really nice and there are not as many students here, as there are at Banting. I enjoy going here because it has given me the opportunity to achieve my credits in a simpler and faster way for me. I like how most of the credits I earned here are independent. I'm glad I got the opportunity to be at this program all in all" ~ Melissa, 17
"I like the Banting Alternative Program because it allows me to work at my own pace so I'm able to understand the work to the best of my ability. I enjoy being around the other students, and I love the teachers. They make the going to school way more fun. The Alt program also gives you a feel for what college would be like" ~Jenn, 17
"I just recently moved to the country from the city of Mississauga. I went to the actual Banting High School for about half a semester and had a lot of problems with attendance, so I was asked if I would like to go to the Alternative Program. I wasn't sure about it at first but I gave it a shot. The first thing I really liked about the program was that you could wear your hat all day and how laid back of a work environment it is. I also love the teachers. I also love how we are done everyday at 12:45 p.m. This is really relaxing for me because in regular school I'm usually dead halfway through the day and don't do the work anyways. I just wish there was a program like this in Mississauga, or at least told about it. I would have been doing good in school and my parents wouldn't have wanted to get me out of the city. I will definitely return to the Alternative Program next year" ~Alex, 17
"I LOVE the Banting Alternative Program,
I find this program alot better then going to Banting Memorial High school.
This program gives us the chance to earn our credits faster and work at our own pace. Also we have a food program where we get to make delicious lunches instead of leaving and walking uptown to get fast food. I really like how this school is smaller and has less people it makes a happier enviorment so we don't have as much drama as a regular high school. Everyone gets along, and there is no bullying. The teachers are also amazing, they are so helpful with everything and you get more one on one time with them. The Banting alternative program has really helped me improve my attendence and complete alot more of my work and assignments :) I don't know what I would do without this Alternative program, it has truly helped my high school marks, attendence etc! :)" ~Kuera, 17

"My experience here at the Banting Alternative School has been great. I like how everything is laid back and I'm not so pressured on doing work, I can go at my own speed. I like how I have different booklets on subjects I choose and they aren't difficult to finish. What's different about here is we all interact with each other and laugh, it's a smaller group of people and I find it's easier to focus most of the time. I have definitely improved on coming to school more often, and I can actually get my credits here" ~ Taylor, 18
"Things that I like about the Alternative School would be how we decided to start days at 8:15 and finish at 12:45. That makes us have a the full day ahead of us when we are off school. I also like the food program and think it was a good idea since we don't get to go for lunch. This give us a chance to eat and stay on task. I also like how we do our work independently. That gives everyone the chance to work on their work at their own pace. Also giving you the chance to get credits quicker than at Banting High School" ~Jake, 17
"I like that it is a smaller class and getting off at 12:45. Some things that I improved on is not getting suspended and getting more work done" ~Mike, 17
"I find that the Banting Alternative School is a better program for students that find that they work better at a different pace than other students. Some of the ways that the Alternative School tries to make things easier for struggling students is a shorter day (8:15-12:45), giving the students less motive to skip classes. Banting Alternative also has no lunch breaks eliminating the opportunity to leave part way through the day. Instead the day consists of four breaks spread out evenly over the day. Students are free to use this time as they please. Students also have the opportunity to gain more credits than they could a normal high school which helps them to make up lost credits faster" ~Josh, 17
"Over the past few years, I've had great inspiration and dedication to graduate. I owe my gratitude to the Banting Alternative Program. The staff, students and environment make it a productive work environment where ridicule and negativity are not practiced" ~Devon, 18
